In conversation with Sam Rankin from The Luxe Week

At the young age of 25, the dynamic trio behind The Luxè Week, all graduates from the prestigious University of Leicester, have achieved remarkable success as the Founders and Directors of a vibrant global tour company established in 2019. Their entrepreneurial journey began in Bali, where they set up their business and subsequently made Indonesia their home. Fueled by their unwavering passion to offer unparalleled experiences, their luxurious tours in Bali bring together a diverse group of up to 100 individuals from around the world, offering an array of activities that cater to every desire.

Building upon their triumphs, The Luxè Week expanded its horizons to Tulum, Mexico, four years later. Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, the company not only endured but thrived. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to Sam, Papi, and Michael’s shared love for life, their spontaneous nature, and their relentless dedication to crafting extraordinary experiences for their clientele.

It is truly remarkable to note that before embarking on their transformative one-month trip to Thailand in 2018 to celebrate their graduation, none of these talented individuals had ever ventured abroad. Sam, Papi, and Michael found themselves blissfully unaware that this journey would become a pivotal moment in their careers, igniting their passion for what they had just studied. The trip exposed them to a world of unique experiences, tantalizing flavours that set their taste buds ablaze, like-minded individuals who soon became lifelong friends, breathtaking tropical settings, eye-opening destinations, unforgettable nights filled with excitement, and memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.

Here’s their journey.

Are you seeing any emerging trends from your customers over the last 6-12 months?

Revenge travel is certainly in full effect. Travellers are looking to take bigger, once-in-a-lifetime trips. They’re flying further than they did before, looking for new and exciting experiences.

In your experience, what have been the biggest changes to how we all travel?

People want an experience. Especially millennials and Gen-Z. The all-inclusive 2-week stays at resorts are getting less attractive. Our travellers are after something unique. Searching for itineraries that skip the boring tourist traps but instead force you to get adventurous, immersing yourself in the local culture. It’s all about trying something new, whilst making it super easy and natural to meet like-minded people.

Why did you choose Indonesia, or more specifically Bali as your first location?

When picking our first destination we wanted a location that had the perfect blend of adventure, culture, a good party scene and of course luxury. Bali has all 4 things in abundance. It’s a truly special island that captures the heart of everyone who visits. The amount of people that visit Bali and dream about moving here is crazy!

What can people expect in Tulum?

For Tulum, we’ve gone above and beyond. To start with, the villas are massive! The smallest one is 6 bedrooms, with the largest boasting 12 bedrooms, accommodating up to 24 people. The experience will certainly rival Bali. Those joining us in Mexico can look forward to exploring the Tulum ruins and stunning cenotes, spending the day on a private yacht sailing the Caribbean coast whilst also enjoying exclusive dinners and reservations at the best restaurants and beach clubs. It’s safe to say that the experience and value our guests will be receiving in Tulum is on another level.

What’s next for The Luxè Week?

We just launched our new platform, which if I do say so myself, looks incredible! Our mission hasn’t changed and we’re still striving to connect as many like-minded travellers as possible, all whilst providing them with an experience like no other. We’ve found a formula that works and the goal now is to offer new experiences in more locations. Our community is growing every single day and I’m excited to see where we’ll go in the coming years. Right now for Luxè Week, the world is our oyster!
