Useful travel tips for when you remote work

Thinking of taking the concept of remote work to the next level? With UK workers now going into offices just 1.4 days per week on average, hybrid working is becoming increasingly popular.

Whether you’re visiting family abroad or you’ve been sent to another country by your company, it’s important to be prepared before you do your job abroad. While many of us are already accustomed to working from home, working abroad is a bit different. Working while travelling allows you to pick up new skills, learn new languages, boost your confidence, and, of course, immerse yourself in a new culture.

We’ve outlined some of the most crucial things to keep in mind while you plan your trip – especially if you’re intending to work while you’re out there.

But first, let’s understand why more people are into remote work.

Why remote work is growing

A decade ago, remote work was extremely uncommon. Working from home was usually only available on a case-by-case basis to accommodate families. Teleconferencing and telework technology, on the other hand, have advanced to the point where some businesses can thrive with completely remote teams. In fact, businesses frequently allow their employees to work from home once or twice a week.

Since 2020, we learned a lot. We’ve all had to make changes to our lives and businesses as a result of the global COVID-19 crisis. The transition to remote work is a significant change in many people’s daily routines.

Here’s our list of the things you need to make sure you have the best remote work experience.

Get organised

We’d suggest making a list and following it throughout your time away.

Though it might sound obvious, you’ll first need to make sure you have a reliable, speedy internet connection wherever you’re headed. If you’re unsure, check in advance to avoid any stressful issues once you arrive.

You should also pack appropriately. Along with chargers for your devices, you’ll also need adapters for the country you’ll be visiting. It’s worth checking if you could save money by buying goods once you’re out there, too.

Keep your data safe

Even with the new online safety laws introduced in Parliament, it’s more important than ever before to keep your personal information secure online.

Whether you’re entering your card details for online shopping or keeping up to date with the latest CFD trading, it’s essential to protect your passwords and other sensitive data. To keep your data protected while you’re travelling, we’d recommend that you:

Protect your devices

Heard of two-factor authentication? If you haven’t, it’s probably time to learn about a few methods to keep your online accounts secure. Protecting the physical safety of your devices is also paramount, so we’d suggest leaving your most valuable gadgets safely locked at home if you’re on the go.

Avoid public Wi-Fi networks

Even though working from a café might be tempting, you might leave yourself vulnerable to unprotected Wi-Fi networks, making you an easier target for hackers. Only use data networks you know and trust, especially when you’re working with sensitive information.

Don’t fall for phishing scams

It’s important not to let your guard down, even if you’re feeling jetlagged. Keep an eye out for suspicious-looking emails, messages and pop-ups on your browser, no matter where you are.

Find a routine

You’re in a new place, so it’s equally important to set aside time to explore your new surroundings.

During your working hours, focus on the task at hand and keep distractions to a minimum. However, if you set appropriate limits and know when to stop working for the day, you’ll be able to achieve the perfect balance.

Finding co-working spaces could be helpful for you, especially if you’re new to the area. Just remember to keep yourself – and your Wi-Fi connection – as safe as possible!
